Scientist, Molecular Biology

Position Summary

Galenvs Sciences is seeking an experienced and independently motivated scientist to join its expanding R&D department in Montreal, Quebec. This dynamic position is suited for an individual who: i) possesses a strong background studying molecular diagnostic assay and technology development, and ii) thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and executing products and experiments as a member of a cross-disciplinary team focused on magnetic nanoparticle-based nucleic acid extraction, and other biomedical applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assay development studies, from initial design through validation
  • Conduct research efforts related to improving, altering and expanding core technology capabilities including development of new molecular tools and implementation of mechanistic studies
  • Investigate problem areas and areas of desirable product improvement
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with other scientists, chemists, engineers and manufacturing personnel
  • Demonstrate technical expertise in molecular techniques (especially primer/probe design, multiplex RT-qPCR, as well as isothermal PCR)
  • Perform high level analysis of experimental results
  • Manage projects by developing study designs, work streams, timelines and deliverables while driving project execution to meet corporate expectations

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or closely related field
  • Molecular assay/technology development experience in an industrial setting
  • Deep knowledge of oligonucleotide synthesis and primer/probe design
  • Hands-on knowledge of nucleic acid amplification and detection technologies experience, with strong isothermal nucleic acid amplification experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects with minimal supervision
  • Work with clinical samples using molecular diagnostic technologies
  • Inventive, with ability to implement ideas in the laboratory

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with multiplex PCR or isothermal amplification (LAMP, RPA, NASBA, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience with oligonucleotide modifications is a plus
  • Proficiency and expertise in assay/technology development through published papers, patents and/or presentations is a plus
